Couples Therapy

Most couples find that along the path of their partnership the task of managing a healthy relationship can often be complex. Turning to couples therapy does not mean something is wrong with either partner. However, it does often mean that some discord exists in finding a collaborative path where two people living together can live with least pain. Life circumstances often pull partners in different directions and raise feelings such as anger, hurt, disappointment, or loneliness. These feelings can get in the way of enjoying the relationship and finding solutions. Many couples enter a negative cycle of interaction and act in ways that intensify the conflict, which after a while creates a snowball affect.

Communications

Couples therapy can help couples identify how each individual participates in the misunderstanding. Changes and transitions in life are periods prone to an emotional

stress overload affecting couples and families. Crisis in a couple’s family life challenges the everyday routine and often requires professional counseling. Substance abuse and early recovery is an example of one of these transitions. When inappropriately managed, it can devastate a couple’s relationship and threaten their ability to co-operate and communicate effectively.
